We EXPECT OUR FRIENDS to make us feel valued and loved and also to assist us to discover and inspire our best self. In essence FRIENDS should become instrumental in the architecture of our own character. To make us feel valued and loved our FRIEND must convey appreciation for the person we currently are. To assist us to grow, they must point out the difference between that person and the person we can ideally become, by placing a critical eye on our faults.
We are asking our FRIENDS to be accepting and at the same time to be as a life coach. Assisting a FRIEND to reach their goals successfully can be a brutal course. Success can be achieved in the long run, but in the short run can cause distress.
Achieving personal growth is an arduous process. The path from the actual to the ideal self passes through anxiety, frustration and humiliation. Assisting a FRIEND to achieve their goal can require criticism rather than warmth, harshness rather than comfort. It is difficult to show a FRIEND shattering feedback while showing them that they are valued.
A VALUED FRIEND should continually switch from tenderness or tough love as the situation requires. There has to be a constant significant attention and sensitivity. It is difficult to make our FRIENDS feel valued and accepted while pushing them to be the best they can be. If a FRIEND does not make the effort to improve the other, then that is as much a betrayal as not being honest with your FRIEND. DO NOT BE A FALSE FRIEND.
BE A VALUED FRIEND, RISK THE RELATIONSHIP. ASSIST YOUR FRIEND TO GROW. THE FRIENDSHIP WILL BE STRONGER IN THE LONG RUN. THAT IS WHAT A TRUE FRIEND WOULD DO.
WELCOME YOUR CHOSEN FRIEND WITH YOUR HEART AND SOUL, BE KIND, BE TOUGH.

Thank you for being such a true friend ~ it has made me the being I am today ~

Sadly, I’m quite the coward in this regard. I loathe confrontation and so I usually just go with the flow because it’s just easier. You are right though, to be a good friend I should be honest. Guess I’m always afraid of losing a friendship but I guess if the friendship is lost, it wasn’t actually much of a friendship. Great post! 💜
