CAPTURING YOUR MOMENTS…T. Levitt, Winnegrad

The Dalai Lama was asked, what surprised him most about humanity. He answered, “Man.” Because he sacrifices his health to make money. Then he sacrifices his money to recuperate his health. He also is so anxious about the past and the future he does not enjoy the present. The result being he does not live in the present. We then miss out on the beauty of our lives because we are so consumed about the past and future of our lives. It is almost impossible to remain in the present where we should be.

So how do we exist in the present moment, the only one that we truly have. The answer is, DELIBERATE PRACTICE overtime. So we can focus on present moment awareness. Jon Kabat-Zinn calls it, “capturing your moments.” That means constantly checking in moment to moment asking ourselves; Am I awake? Where is my mind right now? When we realize we have wandered, we come back passionately and non-judgmentally.

A great tool to pull you back to the present is of course your breath. No matter where you are, or what you are doing, it is an anchor you can always come back to. When you are aware that you drifted off and feel impatient or anxious, create some separation from your drifting thoughts. Observe them with no judgement and come back to your slow deep breaths to recenter your awareness in the present. This is how we can pull ourselves out of daydreams and soften anxiety. The breath is always there for you, like a supportive friend you can always count on. ALWAYS GO BACK TO THE BREATH.

TAKE CARE, STAY WELL, STAY HEALTHY. HAVE FAITH. BEAR THE LOVE. THANK YOU.
