10 MINUTES A DAY can benefit you over time by improving your working memory, giving you less mind-wandering, and giving a greater sense of well-being, and better relationships. Yes, 10 MINUTES A DAY of MEDITATING, over time, gives you all those benefits. Now I know everyone has 10 MINUTES A DAY to accept that kind of “MENTAL ARMOR.”
MEDITATING is a practice that brings your attention to your breath. Overtime this practice enables a person to bring their attention to the PRESENT MOMENT easily. Mental time travel is one of the biggest culprits degrading our attention. We do it all the time seamlessly. And we do it even more under stress. Under stress our attention gets pulled into the past by a memory, where we ruminate on it. Or we get pushed into the future with a worry. So, with MEDITATING a form of muscle tone for the brain is developed, a “MENTAL ARMOR.”
When MEDITATING focus on the breath, that is the target. It could be the coolness of the air moving in and out, or some other specific sensation related to the breathing. When the mind wanders from your attentional “target,” simply redirect to the breath as many times as needed. To focus on the breath when it is interrupted, try on the in-breath to think of the word LOVE and on the out-breath think of the word GRATITUDE. Do that for several breaths, then just focus on the breaths. In a short time your “MENTAL ARMOR” will start to develop.
THINK OF THAT, BETTER MEMORY, BETTER SENSE OF WELL-BEING, BETTER RELATIONSHIPS, ALL FOR 10 MINUTES A DAY. OUTSTANDING!
TAKE CARE, STAY WELL, STAY HEALTHY. THANK YOU.
