POLICE ENCOUNTERS… Winnegrad

My POLICE ENCOUNTERS were not many. One was when I was with my six year old son. I wanted to take him camping in the wild. I always camped out in the wild without a tent, just a sleeping bag. I was afraid to do it with him without knowing how he would react to the situation. So I took him to a city park around midnight and we left the car and slept in the park. Around two in the morning the POLICE woke us up and told us to go home.

In the early 1970’s, when people jogged only on running tracks, I started running on streets. I was running on the side of a street near my apartment. The Police stopped me and asked, “what was I running from?” I told them I was exercising. They didn’t believe me, I had to take them to my apartment that was close by. They let me go.

The other POLICE ENCOUNTER was when I left my apartment building to get into my car and drive to work. On the highway to work, I smelled “dog poop.” I stepped into some getting into my car. I did not want to stop driving so I drove with my foot out of the door. I guess it was noticeable because the POLICE pulled me over. They asked me why I was driving like that. I told them about the “poop.” They laughed and said to drive with both feet in the car. I left my shoe on the side of the road and went to work with one shoe. It was uncomfortable the whole day.

The last POLICE ENCOUNTER was when I took my new bride from Australia into New York for the first time. We stopped at a red light in the city. A POLICE car pulled up next to us. I rolled down my window, and the POLICE did the same when they saw I had a question. I looked at the two OFFICERS and said; “she wants to charge me $25, is that too much?” My wife went crazy and the two POLICE OFFICERS laughed.

TAKE CARE, STAY WELL, STAY HEALTHY. HAVE FAITH. BEAR LOVE. THANK YOU.
