STORYTELLING…Winnegrad

We are hardwired for STORYTELLING since the caveman days. We are all STORYTELLERS. Susanne Langer said; “any exact concept of feeling and emotion cannot be projected into the reasoning form of literal language. Communication is almost useless for conveying emotions. Intuition is the understanding of feeling.”  Stories are one of the most effective ways to communicate, because the message awakens the emotions which in turn can touch the heart.

Words go to the cortex part of the brain. Not to the Limbic system of the brain where SMELL, VISION and EMOTION reside. That is why it is sometimes difficult to express your feeling of a person or situation to your complete satisfaction. An image or a smell tends to hit us quicker, in the “gut,” and more consistently than our rational centers. Kandinsky said; “the true spirit of a creation can never be created through theory, but only inspired by feeling.” There is a cost to reducing everything to its ingredients. THE RESULT FROM DISSECTING IS NOT THE SAME AS UNDERSTANDING. One must appreciate the power of the STORY. Then one can EXPRESS THE INEXPRESSIBLE.

FRAGRANCE GIVES VISIBLE LIFE TO THE INVISIBLE through STORYTELLING. Creating a vivid image in one’s mind, will engage the imagination of the person perceiving the fragrance. We should take advantage of the fact that SMELL, EMOTION and VISION all reside together in the Limbic system. The STORIES are all in the same place, the Limbic system “wants” TO NEGOTIATE THE EMOTIONAL RESPONSE.

We should take advantage of this SUPER HIGHWAY of smell to the limbic system. Having SMELL, VISION, EMOTIONS in one place allows us to use this MULTI-SENSORY receptor to help us emotionally connect to a fragrance. Statistical reasoning is difficult to retain whereas relating to an emotional experience, is easy to recall.

BE AN ENCHANTER OF FRAGRANCE, BE AN ENGAGER OF FRAGRANCE, BE INTERCONNECTED WITH FRAGRANCE: BE A STORYTELLER OF FRAGRANCE.

STORIES ABSOLUTELY EDUCATE BY TOUCHING THE HEART AND ULTIMATELY ADDING SOUL.
