At any stage in your career, any profession, a HUMANIST’s grace is needed in this rapidly evolving high-tech environment. CURIOSITY, CREATIVITY, and EMPATHY are traits that are a necessity in all jobs. With those traits you will be a success in tech or non-tech positions. This post has some similarity to a previous post. As I have learned from my Native American friends they believe; when you repeat things in different ways the message eventually goes to the HEART and not just the Brain.
The HUMAN TOUCH has never been more essential in the workplace than it is today. The more our labs and engineers innovate we get lost in blind spots of big data. It is necessary for those of us to keep prominent the HUMAN FACTOR: CURIOSITY, CREATIVITY, and EMPATHY. With the college courses such as HISTORY, PSYCHOLOGY, ARTS and SOCIOLOGY you are being introduced to a broader way of engagement. A learning that has the PURITY OF INDEPENDENT THOUGHT. Payoffs arise later in all sorts of jobs.
The benefits of this type of education; you will develop the art of LISTENING (with the eyes, ears, HEART, undivided attention), the art of CURIOSITY (a new intellectual position), the art of EMPATHY (entering another person’s thoughts), and even the willingness to accept that you might be wrong. Solving open-ended uncertainty is a rare gift, this is done by taking the wide view, which classics provides to all.
Psychological studies have shown that an “OPENNESS TO NEW EXPERIENCES” people fare better in school and by extension later in life. We need people who color outside the lines. Many leaders in high-tech jobs have taken liberal arts courses in school and not tech courses. WE SHOULD NOT ISOLATE AND MARGINALIZE SOME OF OUR MOST VALUABLE TALENT.
CURIOSITY, CREATIVITY, EMPATHY IS FOR ALL.
