Many years ago, when my son was 6 or 7 years old we went every Saturday to a restaurant on the upper east side for lunch. Then in the evening I would go back myself or with friends for dinner. After doing that consistently for about a year the owner took a liking to me and my son. Sometimes he would ask us to sit with him, if he was not busy, and talk. He was very nice, friendly and had compassion for my son. It was a true delight talking with him.

One Saturday night I went to the restaurant with two Haudenosaunee friends. The restaurant was very crowded. I told my friends to wait by the bar while I went to my friend at his private table and asked if we had long to wait. He said, “no don’t worry you will have a table soon. Just wait with your friends at the bar. They look interesting I would like to meet them.” As I was approaching my friends I saw some commotion with them and two guys. They told me that the two were abusive. The owner also saw the commotion. He asked the two to leave the premises. One said, “you will have to put us out, I warn you I am a black belt in karate.” My friend took a step back and said, “you better move faster than a 38.” With that the bar emptied. The guy turned to the bartender, not knowing my friend was the owner, and said, “call the police he threatened me.” The bartender reached under the bar and pulled up a baseball bat and said “go.” They left.
