YES OFFICER…Winnegrad

Yes, some of my serious problems are my efforts to make people smile or be happy. Sometimes my efforts are taken like I am being annoying or bothersome to others. There are times I try to give little Teddy Bears to children in restaurants and the parents reject the offer, and I can see the child being disappointed with their parents. There are times I try to give an adult a “inspiration” card because they look sad. They react as if I am intrusive or bothersome. My goal is totally to lift another’s spirits. Smiling is so heartwarming.

So, now to show you this trait of mine has been with me for many years. So a little over 45 years ago, before I married my wife, she was here in New York for the first time. She is from Australia. I wanted to marry her , so I wanted to impress her with the friendliness and warmth of New York City. Before we drove into the City from New Jersey I painstakingly explained how everybody talks to everybody in the city. Everybody is a friend.

So we drove through the Lincoln tunnel and were on 9th avenue and 52nd street stopped at a red light. A police car pulled up next to us, with two officers in the car. I rolled down my window to talk to the officer. He rolled his window down and said, “ can I help you?” I said, “YES OFFICER, she (pointing to my pre-wife) wants to charge $25, is that too much?” He laughingly said, “she looks like she is worth more.” NOW THAT WAS A FRIENDLY PLEASANT NEW YORK RESPONSE.

TAKE CARE, STAY WELL, ALWAYS STAY HEALTHY. HAVE FAITH. THANK YOU.
