A LEGEND…Winnegrad

M. Shenandoah tells the story of the cornhusk NO-FACE DOLL. A beautiful doll was created by the Creator, the doll made from cornhusk had a life spirit and traveled from village to village. Everybody from each village told her how beautiful she was. It did not take it long for her to become conceited. She thought she was better than everyone else. She was called to the Creator’s lodge . On the way she passed a pond and she saw her reflection and thought, “I am really beautiful.”

The Creator said to her,  “YOU HAVE TO STOP THINKING YOU ARE BETTER THAN EVERYONE ELSE.” When she returned to the villages, everybody reminded her how beautiful she was. Over time she began to believe it again and she forgot what the Creator said to her. She was called to the Creator’s lodge again. The Creator said, “you did not listen to my warning. You can not have a face anymore.” Walking back to the village the doll passed the pond again and saw that she had no face. She was very sad.

This is a Haudenosaunee legend on the No-Face Doll. THE LESSON HERE IS THAT WE SHOULD NEVER THINK WE ARE BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE. Such a very beautiful legend from the Haudenosaunee people.

HERE IS ANOTHER LESSON ON HAVING HUMILITY; HUMILITY IN THE THESAURUS IS HUMBLENESS. AND THE THESAURUS  HAS HUMBLENESS AS “HIDE ONE’S FACE.” THE HAUDENOSAUNEE HAD THIS LESSON, ABOUT A THOUSAND YEARS AGO, OF BEING HUMBLE AND TO NOT BE BETTER THAN OTHERS. ALWAYS ASSIST OTHERS, OR  LOSE YOUR FACE.

TAKE CARE, STAY WELL, STAY HEALTHY. HAVE FAITH. THANK YOU.
